With ten sizes to choose fromthe overall

dimensions can be tailored to fit your space.

The general rule of thumb on sizing is a minimum of about 24″ of table edge, per person.

Something closer to 30″ will provide more comfort.  As far as the overall width goes, 38″ is

common for kitchen tables, and 42″ is more common for traditional dining tables.

The specifics of table sizing.

There are a few variables to take into consideration when deciding on which size table to purchase.  First of all, figure out what the maximum size table is that your

space can accommodate.  Then, consider that you typically want the table edge to be at least 36-48″ away from any wall.  Once the chairs are in place, this will give you about 24-36″

between the chairs and the wall to account for circulation space.  It can be tempting to buy the biggest table you can  get in the room, however if you don’t take

circulation space into account you will create a confined presence.  It’s better to be comfortable than to have a non-functioning space.

Now consider how many people you will realistically need to seat at the table during the majority of the time you will use it.

Again, it’s advantageous to plan in this manner and have a properly functioning space than to account for the rare event that you will need extra seats.

Lastly, take into consideration how you will actually use the table.  If you have all of the food and serving dishes and equipment on the table while you

eat, you may need extra surface area.  Whether this means going wider or longer, that depends on your personal space and requirements.

A 48″ long table can seat two-four people (two comfortably).  A 60″ table can seat 4-6 people (four comfortably).  A 72 table can seat 6-8 people

(six comfortably).  A 84″ table can seat 8-10 people (eight comfortably).  Lastly, a 96″ table can seat 10+ people.  There are no hard-set rules when it comes to sizing

a table, because we are all different sizes ourselves.   Take everything into consideration and decide how much table you actually need to be comfortable.

Take the seating into consideration.

The overall size of your chairs is an important aspect as to how you will actually interact with the table, so plan accordingly.

If your chairs are very wide, make sure to account for all of that additional space.  The height of our tables is 29-29.5″, so any

standard kitchen or dining chair should fit fine.  Some traditional dining tables, especially older tables, can be much taller; in

the range of 31-32″.   If you have chairs that are designed to match a table such as that, take into account that this

will leave you less space between your thighs and the table apron rails as you sit.
